Carnelian, a type of Chalcedony that ranges from orange to reddish hues, derives its name from the medieval Latin word Corneolus, inspired by the Cornelian cherry native to southern Europe. This versatile stone has been valued throughout history, from adornments for Napoleon and Prophet Muhammed, to its significance in Egyptian and Japanese cultures. In Ancient Egypt, a Carnelian necklace was placed on the deceased to symbolize the Blood of Isis and ensure their protection in the afterlife. During the Japanese Iron Age, Carnelian amulets were found on the necks of the deceased. Interestingly, the 29th chapter of the Egyptian Book of the Dead was inscribed on a tablet of Carnelian. Notable historical figures such as Napoleon I and II also cherished Carnelian, wearing it as a seal of their power and influence. Even the prophet Muhammed was believed to have worn a Carnelian ring on his right hand's little finger.
When Carnelian activates our lower three chakras, our personal will is ignited with an intense drive. Courage, power, and passion are just some of the qualities that rise to the surface when using this stone. It allows for a boundless expression of creativity, infusing colors, details, and symbolism into the mind and body.
